A day in the life: Angela
For Angela, being a housing support officer is about helping tenants overcome challenges and fulfil their potential.
“I supported a young person who had been sofa-surfing following a family breakdown and needed help to overcome substance abuse.
The immediate priority was to put her in touch with external agencies for the expert help she needed to deal with her substance abuse. Beyond that, it was about supporting her to learn how to look after a home and sustain a tenancy.
Support for this tenant included help to budget and to apply for benefits. We established a positive relationship together and when she had her first child, I watched her become a really good mum.
You know when someone is ready to move on. She had all the skills and confidence she needed to look after herself, her child and their home. I supported her to find a new place to rent and to apply for a social housing tenancy.
She has done well. As a housing support officer, I’m proud to have played a part in her journey.”
